FO Friday: Lauder Cardigan

Another finished object! I have to say right off the bat that I’m very unsure of this sweater and maybe that shows in the picture? It has nothing to do with the pattern or the yarn, both are great, but I don’t know that I love the construction and in turn the fit of it. This is a drop shoulder sweater with an all over cable pattern and I knit it in a DK weight yarn. The Lauder is a mega pattern from Rebecca Clow that gives you a lot of options: round neck or v-neck pullover, the same two neckline options in a cardigan, and the same neck options in a vest. It’s a huge PDF and was, to be honest, a bit hard to decipher at times to ensure I was following the right directions for the version I was making. I knit it in Ritual Dyes Marona which I got when we popped up to Portland for a last minute trip last fall. I love the yarn and would use it again.

My hesitations completely come from the way the sweater fits me across the shoulders and how it feels when I’m wearing it. I’ve never made a drop shoulder cardigan before and I’m not sure I’d do it again, as it feels a bit like it could fall off and I don’t love that. This is also my first ever all over cable sweater and it is heavy and warm, which as I discussed previously, may not be great for me. We’ll see how much I pull it off the shelf next winter.

A woman stands before a door and a window and you're seeing her somewhat from the side. She's wearing a cream colored all over v-neck cabled cardigan, a blue t-shirt underneath it and red pants. Her hands are in the pockets of her pants and she's smiling at you. She's got blond hair with some gray in it and brown glasses.
