The Sculptor

Last weekend my turn finally came up on the library hold list to check out The Sculptor by Scott McCloud. I was excited as I really love his non fiction work, such as Understanding Comics, so I wanted to see what I thought of his fiction as well. Unfortunately, I didn’t love it as much as Understanding Comics, but I did finish it.

The story is the classic make a deal with the devil to get one thing while giving up another. But unfortunately the characters just didn’t grab me, and it was some of the more minor characters that made me keep reading and that I found most memorable. I came away from the book almost wondering if I missed something, but I don’t think I did, I just don’t think it was for me.

The only really memorable quote for me from the book is in the following panel:

Oh, but it can. Dear boy, art CAN change the world. Just very, very, slowly.
