Conversations with Friends

I’m at a bit of a loss as to how to write this review, because I rarely finish books that I don’t come to hate as I read them, but I finished this one. By the end I was hate reading Conversations with Friends by Sally Rooney. You may be wondering why I finished, but it was honestly because it was such an easy read and I wanted to see how it would end.

But that’s my first issue, it didn’t really have an ending, it just ended. But more than that I came to really hate the characters by the end. And that’s not usually something I enjoy in a book, I want at least one character I like and can root for as I read. But in the case of this book, I knew by the time I was a third in that wasn’t going to happen.

I read the book because it’s been talked about everywhere and her second novel just came out and so I figured I should give her book a try. And I managed to finish it, but I took her second novel off of my list because I’m no longer trusting all the hype, I’m not sure I can trust what other people are saying, so I’m done with her writing for now.

I will say one positive thing about this book, some of her writing is amazing and I loved some of the sentences, it’s just too bad that I didn’t like the story or the characters.
